Porridge with Fresh Fruit and Almonds

by Angela
(Sydney, Australia)

Porridge is a good way to start the day and keep me full till lunch time. Oatmeal is not flashy but when you add the goodness of fruit and almonds it tastes great.

Here's my recipe:
Take 1 cup of oats, pour 2 cups of water and 1 cup of milk to make it creamy (you could also go with 3 cups of water if you don't drink milk). Bring to the boil and let it simmer for about 3 minutes (or until it becomes thick).
Before eating add 3 - 4 tablespoons of blueberries or several strawberries (fresh or frozen), 1 pear cut into pieces and a handful of roasted almonds, walnuts or hazelnuts.

You can replace the pear by any other fruit in season: apples, bananas, oranges, peaches, mangoes.

It is a very filling breakfast, quick, healthy and cheap and no need to have additional snacks.
